Twins

Introducing...the Twins

The twins came into our home yesterday. They are two of the four kittens birthed by a feral cat who roams our neighborhood looking for scraps of food and a warm bed. Thankfully, a neighbor found the little pregnant two year old and gave her a place to stay but the birth of four excitable, active youngsters was too much for our neighbor to handle and she began looking for homes for the kittens.

One of the twins was given to another neighbor who swore that she wanted a kitten, had one when she was growing up she said and would love to have her own daughter grow up with one. Just two days after taking in the little guy, who was 8 weeks old, she let him outside and left him outside. He was found a week later, shaking under a parked car and brought immediately back to his mother.

With three kittens and a mother who no longer wanted her kittens; it was time after all for them to stop feeding, our neighbor found herself overwhelmed. Yesterday morning, my husband opened the door to her and the first words out of her mouth were "Can you give me a ride to a shelter?"

After talking her down from the height of frustration, it was decided that we would take the twins who play constantly and cause the usual kitten havoc and she would keep the mother and the calm kitten, appropriately named Peace. If the mother's attitude does not change over the next week, she has become reclusive and hostile, she will be added to our home.

Our local "humane shelter" killed 30,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies last year. If you have a pet, please be responsible and have it spayed or neutered. If you are looking for a pet, look in shelters and around your home. All of ours have been cast offs that no one wanted and they are all loving, kind and well adjusted.

A donation in the name of the Twins has been made to our local no-kill shelter, Pets Without Parents

Please consider supporting your local no-kill shelter, they need help to continue the good work that they are doing. Check out this comprehensive list of no-kill shelters to find one near you.

Nike

Worn Out? Play On!

Since 1993, Nike has operated it's ReUse a Shoe program to collect, process, and recycle old athletic shoes into sports surfaces like basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, running tracks and playgrounds for youth around the world.

Reuse-A-Shoe collects worn-out athletic shoes of any brand from a variety of sources, including post- and pre-consumer. Nike Stores as well as participating partner retail stores, athletic clubs, schools and colleges are all locations where shoes may be collected. In the U.S. we also partner with members of the National Recycling Coalition

Surface donations are made in association with our community investment program, Let Me Play, which leverages the power of sport to change young peoples’ lives, build communities and create positive social change.

Nike has made additional commitments to lessening their global footprint. Check out Nike Responsibility to learn more, but most importantly consider donating your old sneakers instead of just throwing them away.
